Lew Kirton

Image
Lew Kirton was born in Barbados where he first sang in his local Anglican choir and in local ensembles where he was known as Jigs Kirton. In 1969 he joined the Sam & Dave Revue as their drummer before becoming a member of The Invitations in 1972 and scoring a hit with " They say the girl's crazy ". The Invitations in fact cut a number of Philly flavours for Silver Blue Records in the 70s that today remain extremely collectible. In 1977 he recorded the 12" single only release for which he is best known " Heaven in the afternoon " for Zagora Production and distributed by TK Records. In 1979 signs as guest artist with Brad Baker. In 1980 "Just Arrived" was released on another TK subsidiary, Alston Records. It was his only album for the label, though while at TK Records. In 1983 Lew moved to New York and recorded a further album " Talk to me " for Believe In A Dream Records through Sony. I have chosen the track entitled "

Image
Fusion guitarist David Spinozza shines on this classic 1978 album released on A&M Records, which features appearances by Leon Pendarvis, Michael Brecker, David Sanborn, Randy Brecker, and the great Luther Vandross. From this Lp I have chosen a great instrumental " On my way to the liquor store ". Arranged by Leon Pendarvis. Produced by Mike Mainieri and David Spinozza. Arnie Love & The Loveletts - Me, Myself & I

Image
I bought this 12" for 11 pounds in 1996 from England. However, I was wrong about it. In fact, I wanted to buy Arnie's Love . I got lucky. After 12 years I sold it for over 300$. It was recorded and released probably in 1980 on TAP Records. Arranged by Nathaniel Yisrael , David Parker and Arnie Love. Produced by Nathaniel Yisrael. From this ultra rare 12", I have chosen a ballad " Me, Myself & I ". Note: The above posted track is not played in full

Kevin Toney - A Good Feeling 1982

Image
Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan where he attended the prestigious Cass Technical High School, Kevin was well into many years of performing with the groundbreaking jazz-fusion group The Blackbyrds when he received his B.A. in Composition and Jazz Studies from Howard University. Seven albums were recorded with the group, three of which were certified gold, and many of their hit songs including “Rock Creek Park” and the Grammy nominated “Unfinished Business” were written by Kevin. In the years between the Blackyrds and his success as a solo recording artist, Kevin showcased his musical versatility as a conductor and arranger for top recording and performing artists including: James Ingram, Patti Austin, Michael McDonald, Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., Carl Anderson, Edwin Hawkins and Isaac Hayes. He also served as conductor and arranger for productions of: Ain’t Misbehavin’, Five Guys Named Moe, Sophisticated Ladies, Harlem Suite, Wild Women Blues (featuring Linda Hopkins) The

Loose Change - Darling, That’s me 1979

Image
This Lp is Philly disco album recorded at Sigma Sound, but released on Casablanca at the end of the 70s. Loose Change are a female trio (Leah Gwin, Donna Beene and Becky Anderson). It sounds like First Choice or Three Degrees. The album contains the track “Rising cost of love” that was first recording by Jean Terrel. However I choose the wonderful track “Darling, That’s me” (originally recorded by Judy Cheeks). Sax solo and arranged by John Davis. Strings and Horns by Don Renaldo. Produced by Tom Moulton. Note: The above posted track is not played in full

Clifford Curry

Image
Clifford Curry is a true soul survivor, a veteran of more than 45 years in music and still kicking. The Knoxville, TN, native joined the Echos while he still attended Austin High School in Knoxville; they had been around four years before Curry joined and backed Faye Adams on her number one R&B smash "Shake a Hand." The revamped group cut two records as the renamed Five Pennies for Savoy Records ("Mr. Moon" and "My Heart Trembles" in 1955 and 1956 respectively) and also waxed unreleased sides for Herald Records. Royalties, money, and the lack of, caused the group to splinter in different directions. Curry and some other Knoxville cronies formed the Bingos, who cut a deal with Ernie Young's Excello Records. Excello issued the single on its Nasco subsidiary and renamed them the Hollyhocks; as before, nothing happened and the members disbanded into other ventures. Curry found a stable gig with the Bubba Suggs Band in 1959, staying until 1964. Th

Lonnie Youngblood - Feelings 1981

Image
" Feelings " is one of the most favorite ballads around the world regardless of what type of music anyone enjoys. Probably you have already heard dozens of versions from various artists in many different styles. I have chosen a wonderful cover version from sax player Lonnie Youngblood released on Radio Records in 1981 for your listening pleasure. Lead vocals by Lonnie Youngblood . Saxophone solo by Lonnie Youngblood. Produced by Vincent Castellano and George Kerr . Also 2 of my favorite soulful versions have been recorded by COLLAGE in 1981 and LETTA MBULU in 1976. Both of them are worth of checking out. For your information, the original song was recorded by Brazilian singer Morris Albert in 1975.

Bobby Hebb - Sunny '76 (Disco version) 1975

Image
This single is one of the most famous songs in the history of American music. However, this version is quite unknown. Many collectors don't really know that Bobby Hebb re-recorded " Sunny " in 1975 on Laurie Records. Whenever is available on the market, it’s not expensive to buy. In fact, it’s a very good Disco tune. Arranged by Joe Renzetti. Produced by Marty Sheridan & Joe Renzetti. I want to thank a huge collector in Greece “ G. Poly ” who brought this amazing version to my attention. Enjoy this special arrangement here below. Please note that the B side ( "Disco" version ) is just an extended version of the A side ( Sunny '76 ). Don't be confused. Note : The above posted track is not played in full
