Wizdom - I'm so in love with you 1980

This is a reissue on Kay Dee Records. The original vinyl is rare from out of Florida on Drive Records. Wizdom is an obscure soul group. They released two 7 incher on the same label entitled "At the disco dance / Funkee melodee" in 1979 and "I'm so in love with you / Love was really meant for you" in 1980 respectively. Also the first single was released as 12 incher on T.K. Productions.

I have chosen the single "I'm so in love with you".



Not to be confused with the gospel group Wisdom which recorded an album in 1985

Pages - Pages 1978 Lp

I remember the day when I bought this album in Athens. I noticed on the album credits that Philip Bailey (of Earth Wind & Fire) participated in the track "This is for the girls" as backing singer. Pages was a West Coast Band and the originals members were Richard Page on vocals, guitars, keyboards, Steve George on keyboards, vocals, Peter Leinheiser on guitars, Jerry Manfredi on bass and Russ Battelene on drums.
They recorded three albums. Their first album was recorded at Location Recording Service, Burbank, California. It was released on Epic Records in 1978.



Some great musicians participated in this album such as Dave Grusin, Michael and Randy Brecker, Victor Feldman and Philip Bailey.
Produced by Bobby Colomby. Strings arranged and conducted by Dave Grusin.
I have chosen two tracks. One funky entitled "Clearly Kim" and one more that reminds me of the group Breakwater entitled "Let it go".

Roland Bautista

Roland Bautista is a guitar player who has played in the band Earth, Wind & Fire. Bautista played on the EWF album Last Days and Time and left the band soon after the album's release. In the meantime he released at least two solo albums: "Bautista" in 1977 and "The Heat Of The Wind" in 1978 on ABC Records. On the second album he collaborated with Bobby Lyle on piano, Steve Gutierrez on drums, Donnie Beck on bass-guitar, Nathaniel Phillips on bass, Willie Bob on congas, percussion. Backing vocals by Jerry Salas, Phil O'Kelsey, Augie Johnson and Sylvia St.James. Also Ernie Watts on sax and Garnet Brown on trombone.
I chose two great tracks entitled "Steal your love away" and "Rhapsody". String arrangements by George Del Barrio. Produced by Wayne Henderson.

He also contributed to Jazz albums on Blue Note Records, as guitar player for "Ronnie Laws Band". His contributions to Tom Waits' albums are 1978 Blue Valentine released in 1978 on which he played the electric guitar and 1980's Heartattack and Vine where he also played the 12-string guitar as well as the electric guitar. Also he has recorded for Crusaders, Jackson 5, Lamont Dozier, Ramsey Lewis, Randy Crawford, George Duke, Wayne Henderson, Hubert Laws and many others. He returned to EWF in 1981 replacing former member Al McKay and performing on the albums Raise! , Powerlight and Electric Universe until 1983 when the group went on a four year hiatus.

I would like to mention, one of my favourite instrumentals by Stanley Turrentine in 1981. In this album called “Tender Togetherness”, Roland Bautista along with other members of the Earth Wind & Fire collaborated with Stanley Turrentine. Especially on the track “Cherubim” Bautista accompanies Turrentine on sax.

Harold - One People 2010

Ladies and Gentlemen, Harold came back with a new song entitled “One People”. Two months ago, I had the pleasure to get to know him and to speak with him. In fact Harold is a great guy and amazing person.

Heading In The Right Direction

"Heading In The Right Direction" was written by prolific Adelaide-born songwriter Garry Paige with his regular collaborator Mark Punch, a member of the Renee Geyer Band, formerly of The Johnny Rocco Band.

Original version by The Johnny Rocco Band in 1975. Funky mid-70s band from Sydney, lead singer Leo De Castro, formerly of Melbourne band King Harvest. Johnny Rocco' was a band name, not a member.

The same year Renee Geyer from Sydney soul/jazz/blues singer released album entitled "Ready to deal" on Mushroom Records ,which was recorded in August–September 1975. "Heading In The Right Direction" was included on the album. The album was produced by Renée Geyer Band and Ernie Rose.

Then she released this song as a single which reached the top 40 in 1976.

Geyer relocated to Los Angeles in mid-1976 and her first US-based album, Moving Along, was released in May 1977 on RCA/Mushroom Records and peaked at #11 in Australia. Geyer re-recorded "Heading In The Right Direction" on this album which was produced by Frank Wilson. Her backing musicians, Mal Logan (keyboards) and Barry Sullivan (bass guitar) were supplemented by members of Stevie Wonder's band, as well as Ray Parker Jr.
Polydor Records release the album for the US market titled Renée Geyer. Also she released for one more time 7 incher "Heading In The Right Direction" on Polydor Records.

In 1987 Vaneese Thomas (Born in Memphis, Tennessee), the daughter of R&B legend Rufus Thomas, released her first album on Geffen Records entitled "Vaneese". Produced by Ernie Poccia, Vaneese Thomas and Wayne Warnecke. Sax solo by Joe Mennonna. Backing vocals by Carla Thomas, Berneta Miles, Betsy Bircher, Carolyn Mitchell, Lydia Mann, Sharon Bryant, Tawatha Agee and Francis Jackson. Vaneese recorded one more version of “Heading in the right direction”.

Today I have the pleasure to present one more rare version of "Heading In The Right Direction". It was included on the mega rare album which released in 1984.

Tommy Stewart - I could never say goodbye (previously unreleased)

Tommy Stewart is an american trumpet player, arranger, producer, composer and pianist residing in Birmingham, Alabama. He is a member of several active performing groups, including the Magic City Jazz Orchestra, Cleveland Eaton and the Alabama All-Stars, the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame Jazz All-Stars, and Ray Reach and Friends. He was a 1988 inductee into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame. Tommy is also a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity incorporated.

During the '70s, he worked and collaborated with great artists such as John Edwards, Loletta Holloway, Johnnie Taylor, Final Approach, Creme D'CoCoa, Tamiko Jones, Moses Davis, Luther Ingram, Martha High, Harold Daniels, Julian Chatman, James Brown and Major Lance.
In 2009 Jazzman Records released EP with 6 previously unreleased boogie, disco and modern soul songs. They were recorded in the late 70s. I chose track entitled "I could never say goodbye".



This song was originally written by Tommy Stewart and Julian Chatman for Luther Ingram in 1978; however; Luther got sick and they had to use Julian on vocals. Julian did a very good job on these vocals and he made the song his!

Greg Green - Your Love 1989

Greg Green is an unknown baritone singer. He has a unique style. He is a composer,arranger, producer, and superb performer as singer and virtuoso of eight musical instruments. In 1989 he released an album entitled "To love by" on ODA Travestine Productions. It was recorded at Different Fur Studio, San Francisco. All songs arranged and produced by Greg Green.

The musicians were Marlon Green on drums, Joe Thomas on bass, Dean Boysey on trumpet, Claytoven Richardson on sax and Larry Batiste on trompone. Greg Green on piano, on percussion, on synthesizer, on organ and on sax. What else can he do?

I chose a great track entitled "Your Love".

Vicki Lawrence - Never gonna let you go 1979

Vicki Lawrence (born March 26, 1949) is an American actress, comedienne, and singer, who was frequently a game show panelist in the 1970s and 1980s. She is best known for her co-starring role on The Carol Burnett Show, alongside Carol Burnett, from 1967 to 1978, and as the sharp-tongued matriarch, Thelma Harper (the main character on Mama's Family, airing from 1983 to 1990, which was spun off from The Carol Burnett Show's The Family sketches). As a singer, Lawrence is most known for her #1 hit, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia," a song written by her first husband Bobby Russell, which was released on Bell Records in November 1972. It sold over two million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in April 1973.
Since 1973 she recorded four albums. In 1979 she released album entitled "Newborn Woman" on Windmill Records. It was recorded at Larrabee Sound Studios.
