J.G.Lewis - Dance Lady Dance 1980

Some months ago, I presented a great singer of Northern soul scene J.G.Lewis (AKA) Johnny Gilliam  from Pittsburgh. However I didn't present in fact the last one single by J.G.Lewis. Now I have the pleasure to do this. This single called " That's her (That's the girl for you) / Dance lady dance "  was released on a small label called " Al & The Kidd " from Washington. Both of these songs were written by himself. Arranged by himself and Leroy Kirkland. Produced by himself and W.Prodocimo. Note: The above posted single is not played in full

Sharalee - When you're near 1978

Sharalee Lucas was born in 1949 on August 13, in Lauderdale, Florida. She is an obscure gospel singer. She appeared in the mid 70s when she recorded an album along with Paul Johnson on Word Records. Next year she released an album entitled " Jesus, You Are My Friend " on Petra Records. In 1978 she released one more album entitled " Daughter of music " on Greentree Records. It was recorded at Great Circle Sound, Nashville,TN. Most of the musicians were unknown. Shane Keister on piano, Joe Osborn and Jack Williams on bass, Lari London on drums, Bobby Thompson, John Thompson and Steve Gibson on guitars. Also Farrell Morris on percussion, Buddy Skipper on sax and Bobby Taylor on English Horns. Backing vocals by Kathy Thompson, Bob Farrell, Michael Jon Albrecht, Scott Roley and Alan Moore. Jesse Gomez

Jesse Gomez was born and raised in Los Angeles California and began singing when he was 10 years old. He worked with a popular band in Los Angeles called “ Smooth Water ” in the 70’s and 80’s. Les Baxter was a great influence in his music career. Les Baxter was singer, pianist, composer and producer. He also wrote the " Whistle " theme for the TV show " Lassie ". He worked on movie soundtracks for American International Pictures where he composed and conducted scores films. In 1974 Jesse Gomez sang on all tracks from the movie entitled " Savage Sisters " where the music was composed and conducted by Les Baxter. In the early 80s Jesse Gomez recorded along with his band some tracks in a small recording studio. Then he released an EP album which included 4 tracks entitled " Baby I really want ya ", " Sidewalk cafe ", " Sweeter than honey " and " Lace " on Bax Records.  Les Baxter was the owner of Bax Records. B.T.A. or Back Together, Again was a group that released two 12 inchers on Macola Records Co from Santa Monica, California. The members were the brothers John Johnson and Carlos Jones. They released two singles entitled " My rules / Be my love " and " With Fancy dancer / Summer nights " in 1986. They also  opened concert of Bobby Brown in 1986.  From the first single, I have chosen the track " Be my love ". Produced and composed by Carlos Jones and John Johnson. Lead vocals by John Johnson. Sax solo by Mark B. In fact " Be my love " is the flip side of the " My rules ". Tom Grose & The Varsity - More of you 1985

Led a popular band in Atlanta during the mid-80s and early 90s called Tom Grose & The Varsity. He had some successes and some of these songs were played on radio shows. Also one song was played on national television exposure. Won numerous awards. Played and sang on countless albums. He wrote the theme song for and performed in the first NBA music video with the Atlanta Hawks . Made the semifinals on "StarSearch." Won the $100,000 Grand Prize on " You Write The Songs ." Wrote the score for "Rockin' To The Pointe," the first rock & roll ballet performed by The Atlanta Ballet at the Atlanta Civic Center during two seasons in 1989 and 1991. Sang and played on many national and regional radio and television commercials. Martee Lebous - The lady wants to be a star Lp 1976

Martee Lebous is a singer, pianist and composer from Woodstock, New York. She was born on April 12, in 1957. She recorded an album at Downtown Sound, N.Y.C. It was released on Image Records in 1976 entitled " The lady wants to be a star ". In this album great musicians were appeared such as Will Lee on bass, Jeff Mironov, John Tropea on guitars, Joe Farell on flute, Randy Brecker on trumpet, Michael Brecker, George Young and Lou Marini on sax. Also Barry Miles on synthesizer, Ron Tierno on drums, George Devens on percussion and backing vocals by David Lasley, Arnold McCuller and Lynn Pitney. Produced and arranged by Charlie Calello. All the songs were composed by herself. I chose two tracks entitled " For David " and " (How can you lose) something you never had ". Solo sax by Michael Brecker on the first track. "Southside" Jerry Mellix

"Southside" Jerry Mellix was born in Pittsburgh, PA. He is a sax player mainly a tenor man but if needed he can be to pick up an alto, baritone and flute. He started out playing in The Hill City Marching Band back in 1959 and he has been performing professionally since 1962 at the age of fifteen. He migrated to the high school band and later found jobs, mainly the weekend nights, with a band called 'Little' Willie Beck & The Crossfires. He went to Soho and Forbes Grade Schools and Fifth Ave. High School. He also went to Pittsburgh University, but left before graduation to go on the road with the show band called " The Memories ". For over 40 years now, he has  performed blues, jazz and  R&B. Since the mid 1960's by 1979, he has played saxophone for various artists performing in Pittsburgh such as Lee Dorsey, The Temptations, The O'Jays, The Coasters and many more. Marc LaRoi Cummings - Lots of Love 1978

Marc LaRoi Cummings was a composer, keyboardist and a singer. He was behind Ronnie McNeir for many years. He appeared in 1974 when he wrote with Ronnie McNeir the song " Wendy is gone " which was released as a single entitled " Wendy is gone / Give Me A Sign " on Setting Sun Records. Also he sang as backing vocalist on the flip side song " Give me a sign ". Both of them were included on the self-titled Ronnie McNeir album in 1975 on Prodigal Records. Next year he co-wrote a song called " Strung out for your love " for the group Four Tops. The same year he co-wrote one more song along with Ronnie McNeir entitled " Say you will " for the Ronnie album " Love's comin' down " on Motown Records. In 1978 he released his first single entitled " Lots of love / Struggling together " on Setting Sun Records. Ronnie McNeir was owner on the label. From this rarity I have chosen the great song " Lots of love ".

Wendell Harrison - Rocket love 1982

Wendell Harrison is a Jazz saxophonist and clarinetist. He was born on October 1, 1942 in Detroit. He performed with Motown stars Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin. Shortly after in 1960 the young Harrison headed for New York. He began performing for some of the world’s premier jazz artists: guitarist Grant Green vocalist Eddie Jefferson, and the great Sun Ra. He teamed up with trumpeters Marcus Belgrave, Jimmy Owens and Howard Johnson to perform and tour with saxophonist Hank Crawford. In 1970 he moved back to Detroit and became a session musician. Also he is the founder of some labels. He started the labels Tribe, Rebirth, and Wenha. He released many albums. After of two albums entitled " Organic Dream " and " Dreams Of a Love Supreme " he tried to record one more album.
