After an unprofitable stint with Flavor, Stan Sheppard banded with Steven and Sterling Rice to form Triple S. The name comes from the first initial of each name: S. Signing with 20th Century Fox Records, the trio enjoyed releases in 1979 and 1980 but never came close to hitting the mother lode. They debuted in 1979 with Stevie Wonder's " My Cherie Amour " b/w " Back in Your Arms Again " written by Chauncey Matthews, who was in Flavor but was content playing keyboards and writing songs for Triple S. 20th Century slapped the Wonder side on the back of "Dance the Night Away," also in 1979, for Triple S's second release. They garnered some club play but nothing was smokin' the charts. A third single, " Singing a Song About You " b/w " Love Is Just a Feeling ," closed out 1979. When tenor saxophonist/bandleader Ronnie Laws cooked up the Pressure album in 1979, he had already established himself as one of the most promising young musicians in contemporary jazz. Pressure , however, was not the straight-ahead jazz project that some critics had anticipated from Ronnie. Released on the heels of his popular “ Friends and strangers ” Lp, the album found Laws creating a mixture of jazz, R&B, pop and other elements in tandem with his six-member back-up band. While the album concept is credited to his group, Pressure definitely bears the stamp of Laws' eclectic arrangement and production ideas. Last year on October 7, I had posted a live recording of Ramsey Lewis. Here is another one great LP from his glorious career. Ramsey Lewis recorded this Lp in 1980 on CBS records entitled " Routes ". One more Lp with members of E.W.&F. Maurice White on vocals, Larry Dunn on synthesizer & piano, Al McKay on guitar, Fred White & Philip Bailey on percussion, Don Myrick on saxophone, Louis Satterfield on trombone, Michael Davis on trumpet, Rahmlee on Fluegelhorn. Also Paulihno Da Costa on percussion, Byron Miller on Bass, Roland Bautista on guitar James Gadson on drumms and many others. Charles Edward Edwins was born in 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA. He started playing guitar professionally in the late 40’s. He made his first recordings in 1953 for Duke as Charles Edwins and his Orchestra (‘I Got Loose’ b/w ‘Bong Gone’). He eventually took the stage name Chuck Edwards, and continued to record for Duke. For many years he recorded many 45" in various labels. In 1972 he packed up his family and moving to the San Francisco Bay area, living in a motel for the first several months. It was there that the Edwards family became the band The Edwards Generation. By the mid-70’s they released at least one 45 (‘School Is In’ b/w ‘Someone Like You’ on Ghetto), and a full length LP, ‘The Street Thang’ on Tight records. The group also appeared on television a few times, including the Mike Douglas Show. In 1983 Chuck recorded two singles on Tight Records, entitled "Ooh la la la" and "Baby baby baby". I have never seen album from this group. They recorded many singles, since the mid 70s until mid 80s. In 1974 The Master Plan released on De-Lite Records with success two of Stanley Lippit's recordings "Clinton Park (a song written about Marvin Holmes young daughter) and "Frying Pan". This 7 inch was recorded around mid 80s on Fos-Glos Records in the Bay area. Produced by Ron Bell & Warren Foster who also own this label. Discography 1. Jesse Davis in Greece . Jesse started his professional career while still very young, touring with The Fabulous Tones as the featured singer. After a year, he decided to strike out on his own, instantly becoming well known in Palm Springs during the "Hollywood playground" days in the 70's. Movie stars Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, Doug McClure, Darren McGavin, Denise Darcel, David Jannsen, Paul Burke; and singer Jackie DeShannon were a few of the many celebrities that were frequent patrons at Jesse's performances. Of special note, First Lady Betty Ford came to see him twice, the second time bringing her husband, President Gerald Ford. This caused quite a stir, surrounded by Secret Service, particularly when the First Lady said she could not leave until she had a dance with Jesse! This vinyl is an ultra rare record 45". Ten days ago it was sold for 150$ on ebay. Also three months ago it was sold for 230$ on ebay. Carlena Williams grew up in a small town in North Carolina. She sang for the first time in church at the age of 13. She got in the high school and participated in the high school group called Delvettes . When she graduated from high school at the age of 18, she relocated to Buffalo in her sisters. Ηer brother-in-law Jesse  was a singer. He sang with the Buffalo Gospel Singers . Along with him she sang at the hottest night spot " The Shalimar Club" . There, artists such as Richard Pryor , Arthur Connoly , Eddie Floyd , Millie Jackson and Betty Wright  would come as "head liners" and she got open shows for them. Later Vanetta Fields  formerly of the Corinthian Gospel Singers of Buffalo and  Eddie O'Jay  manager at that time of the famous group The O'Jays  helped her to be introduced to the Corinthians . The group formed in Philadelphia and comprised of James Williams, Joseph Harris, Charles Whittington and Leonard 'Butch' Davis. They recorded three albums on Salsoul Records entitled “Ten Percent” in 1976, “Four play” in 1978 and “Locker room” in 1979. Before they disbanded, they recorded two tracks entitled “After all this time” and “I’m in love with you” in 1981, for the Gold Coast label. From this 7 inch I chose the track “I’m in love with you”.
