Triple SSS Connection

Image
After an unprofitable stint with Flavor, Stan Sheppard banded with Steven and Sterling Rice to form Triple S. The name comes from the first initial of each name: S. Signing with 20th Century Fox Records, the trio enjoyed releases in 1979 and 1980 but never came close to hitting the mother lode. They debuted in 1979 with Stevie Wonder's " My Cherie Amour " b/w " Back in Your Arms Again " written by Chauncey Matthews, who was in Flavor but was content playing keyboards and writing songs for Triple S. 20th Century slapped the Wonder side on the back of "Dance the Night Away," also in 1979, for Triple S's second release. They garnered some club play but nothing was smokin' the charts. A third single, " Singing a Song About You " b/w " Love Is Just a Feeling ," closed out 1979. A self-titled album came out in 1979 that found few takers. Not wanting to throw good money after bad, 20th Century cooled on the act and didn't

Pressure featuring Ronnie Laws

Image
When tenor saxophonist/bandleader Ronnie Laws cooked up the Pressure album in 1979, he had already established himself as one of the most promising young musicians in contemporary jazz. Pressure , however, was not the straight-ahead jazz project that some critics had anticipated from Ronnie. Released on the heels of his popular “ Friends and strangers ” Lp, the album found Laws creating a mixture of jazz, R&B, pop and other elements in tandem with his six-member back-up band. While the album concept is credited to his group, Pressure definitely bears the stamp of Laws' eclectic arrangement and production ideas. Melvin Robinson on guitar, Barnaby Finch on synthesizers & keyboards, Bobby Vega on bass, Pat Kelly on guitar, Art Rodriguez on druma and percussion, Ronnie Laws on tenor sax & vocals. Also vocals by Betty Jo Miller, Samuel Moore, Sandra and Johnny Laws. Produced by himself. I have chosen killer track entitled " Can you feel it ". Note: The above

Also Paulihno Da Costa on percussion, Byron Miller on Bass, Roland Bautista on guitar James Gadson on drumms and many others. Chuck Edwards - Ooh la la la 1983

Image
Charles Edward Edwins was born in 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA. He started playing guitar professionally in the late 40’s. He made his first recordings in 1953 for Duke as Charles Edwins and his Orchestra (‘I Got Loose’ b/w ‘Bong Gone’). He eventually took the stage name Chuck Edwards, and continued to record for Duke. For many years he recorded many 45" in various labels. In 1972 he packed up his family and moving to the San Francisco Bay area, living in a motel for the first several months. It was there that the Edwards family became the band The Edwards Generation. By the mid-70’s they released at least one 45 (‘School Is In’ b/w ‘Someone Like You’ on Ghetto), and a full length LP, ‘The Street Thang’ on Tight records. The group also appeared on television a few times, including the Mike Douglas Show. In 1983 Chuck recorded two singles on Tight Records, entitled "Ooh la la la" and "Baby baby baby". I have chosen the track "Ooh la la la". Produced by I

In 1974 The Master Plan released on De-Lite Records with success two of Stanley Lippit's recordings "Clinton Park (a song written about Marvin Holmes young daughter) and "Frying Pan". This 7 inch was recorded around mid 80s on Fos-Glos Records in the Bay area. Produced by Ron Bell & Warren Foster who also own this label. Discography 1. Jesse Davis

Image
Jesse Davis in Greece . Jesse started his professional career while still very young, touring with The Fabulous Tones as the featured singer. After a year, he decided to strike out on his own, instantly becoming well known in Palm Springs during the "Hollywood playground" days in the 70's. Movie stars Rita Hayworth, Kim Novak, Doug McClure, Darren McGavin, Denise Darcel, David Jannsen, Paul Burke; and singer Jackie DeShannon were a few of the many celebrities that were frequent patrons at Jesse's performances. Of special note, First Lady Betty Ford came to see him twice, the second time bringing her husband, President Gerald Ford. This caused quite a stir, surrounded by Secret Service, particularly when the First Lady said she could not leave until she had a dance with Jesse! The president was very gracious about that and followed suit by dancing with one of the female Secret Service members. A couple years later a customer put Jack Entratter, owner of the Sands

Formula V - Phase 1 1977

Image
This album was recorded on 20th Century Records in 1977. In this Lp, Formula V were Richard Cason on keyboards & vocals, Leon Kittrell on drums & vocals, Billy Ray Charles on lead guitar & vocals, Earl J. Espy on bass & vocals and Alfreda James on vocals. Horn & String Arrangements by H.B.Barnum & Charles Richard Cason. Produced by Pete Peterson & Charles Richard Cason. I chose a wonderful track entitled " We've got such a good love " duet Richard Cason with Alfreda James. Charles Richard Cason is best known for his Rich Cason Orchestra of the early '80s and for his contributions to electro-funk and West Coast hip-hop; it was Cason who wrote the music for Captain Rapp's sociopolitical 1983 cult classic " Bad Times (I Can't Stand It) ." Discography 1. Come And Get Yourself Some 1974 (as Formula IV) 2. Phase 1 1977 (as Formula V) 3. Determination 1985 (as Formula 5) 4. On the rise 1986 (as Formula 5) Note

Carlena Williams - When I'm touching you 1984

Image
This vinyl is an ultra rare record 45". Ten days ago it was sold for 150$ on ebay. Also three months ago it was sold for 230$ on ebay. Carlena Williams grew up in a small town in North Carolina. She sang for the first time in church at the age of 13. She got in the high school and participated in the high school group called Delvettes . When she graduated from high school at the age of 18, she relocated to Buffalo in her sisters. Ηer brother-in-law Jesse  was a singer. He sang with the Buffalo Gospel Singers . Along with him she sang at the hottest night spot " The Shalimar Club" . There, artists such as Richard Pryor , Arthur Connoly , Eddie Floyd , Millie Jackson and Betty Wright  would come as "head liners" and she got open shows for them. Later Vanetta Fields  formerly of the Corinthian Gospel Singers of Buffalo and  Eddie O'Jay  manager at that time of the famous group The O'Jays  helped her to be introduced to the Corinthians . In the 60s

Double Exposure - Yes I'm in love with you 1981

Image
The group formed in Philadelphia and comprised of James Williams, Joseph Harris, Charles Whittington and Leonard 'Butch' Davis. They recorded three albums on Salsoul Records entitled “Ten Percent” in 1976, “Four play” in 1978 and “Locker room” in 1979. Before they disbanded, they recorded two tracks entitled “After all this time” and “I’m in love with you” in 1981, for the Gold Coast label. From this 7 inch I chose the track “I’m in love with you”. Produced by Lionel Job. To my surprise I bought this rare 7inch for only $1. Also I would like to send special thanks to Phil Ward and Nicolas Drosos who introduced me to this wonderful gem. Note : The above posted single is not played in full

Jigsaw & Lenny White

Image
Jigsaw was an obscure soul/funk/pop group from England. They recorded nine albums and many other singles. This album was recorded on Elektra Records in 1981. From this Lp I have chosen a wonderful ballad entitled " You bring out the best in me ". Co-written and produced by Ben Findon. After two years, Lenny White re-recorded the same track on Elektra Records. Vocals by Vaneese Thomas and James (Crab) Robinson (was member of Change). Produced by himself. Which version you think is better? Please tell me your opinion . Note : The above posted singles are not played in full

Lady Bianca Thornton

Image
Bianca Thornton was born in Kansas City, Missouri on 8th August 1953 and was the oldest of two sisters and a brother. She learned the art of playing Blues at a very young age by listening to her father, who was always singing and playing Blues, although he claimed it was Gospel music. At the age of 17 Bianca’s first paying gig was with Quinn Harris and the Masterminds. Quinn was a San Francisco saxophonist and keyboardist and they performed as a side attraction at the Brass Rail in Sunnyvale. It was Quinn Harris who first gave Bianca the name Lady Bianca as she was so pure and conservative. It was also with Quinn Harris and the Masterminds that Bianca made her recording debut in 1970 on the Reynolds Records LP “All in the Soul”. This features 2 tracks written and performed by Bianca titled “Stop! Telling Me Lies” and “We Got To Live Together”. These were also released as a single on Reynolds Records. Her first major performance was in 1972 at the San Francisco production of singer

They recorded one and only album on Arista Records in 1981 entitled " Spirit of the street ". I have chosen two tracks entitled " Rainbow " and " Thank you for our song ". Produced by John Barnes. Front Row - My love my song 1983

Image
I first heard this track about three years ago. Immediately I found it. My friend/collector "John" sent it to me on MP3. However, I bought it on 7-inch. I don't know much info about Front Row. They recorded this track on "To Be Continued Records" in 1983. The flip side is entitled "Wanting you". Also TBC Records released a 12-incher with one more track entitled "You're the one". Produced by Phillip Miller. Note: The above posted single is not played in full

Gene Harris - In a special way 1976

Image
I love this album. One of the most accessible of all jazz pianists, Gene Harris’ soulful style was immediately likable and predictably excellent. He recorded this Lp on Blue Note Records in 1976. They participate lots of good artists such as Philip Bailey (Percussion and vocals), Jerry Peters (Producer and electric piano), Azar Lawrence (Tenor Sax), George Bohanon (Trombone). Also vocals by Deniece Williams, Stephanie Spruiell, Merry Clayton and D.J.Rogers. I have chosen two tracks entitled "Love for sale" and "It's your love". Gene Harris - Love for sale 1976 Gene Harris - It's your love 1976 Note: He died on January 16, 2000, at the age of 66

Lady 1982

Image
This 7 inch is not rare and is not expensive, but Lady recorded two wonderful boogie tracks on Mega Records in 1982 entitled "Number one" and "Living for the thought". I don't know if she was the same female artist who sang for disco group Stratavarious from Canada and also she recorded two rare tracks on Mark-Lin Records in 1976 entitled " You're still the one " and " Whatever happened to the love ". Co-written and produced by Jerry Marcellino. Jerry was known as composer and producer for the early 70s recordings of Michael Jackson and Dianna Ross. Note: The above posted tracks are not played in full

O' Malley Jones - Layin' for you girl 1983

Image
Recently I bought this 7 inch. However, I would like to thank a special gentleman from England for his unconditional help. Thank you very much John (one of the best collectors in Europe) that you brought this amazing version to my attention. O'Malley Jones recorded this track on Airwave Records in 1983. Three years ago he sang for "Ty & Towana" group on Sheridan House Records. Produced and arranged by Ceasar Valentino. Background vocals by Fred Foley, Greg Lee, Karen Jackson and Robin Alexander.
