Heading In The Right Direction
"Heading In The Right Direction" was written by prolific Adelaide-born songwriter Garry Paige with his regular collaborator Mark Punch, a member of the Renee Geyer Band, formerly of The Johnny Rocco Band.
Original version by The Johnny Rocco Band in 1975. Funky mid-70s band from Sydney, lead singer Leo De Castro, formerly of Melbourne band King Harvest. Johnny Rocco' was a band name, not a member.
The same year Renee Geyer from Sydney soul/jazz/blues singer released album entitled "Ready to deal" on Mushroom Records ,which was recorded in August–September 1975. "Heading In The Right Direction" was included on the album. The album was produced by Renée Geyer Band and Ernie Rose.
Then she released this song as a single which reached the top 40 in 1976.
Geyer relocated to Los Angeles in mid-1976 and her first US-based album, Moving Along, was released in May 1977 on RCA/Mushroom Records and peaked at #11 in Australia. Geyer re-recorded "Heading In The Right Direction" on this album which was produced by Frank Wilson. Her backing musicians, Mal Logan (keyboards) and Barry Sullivan (bass guitar) were supplemented by members of Stevie Wonder's band, as well as Ray Parker Jr.
Polydor Records release the album for the US market titled Renée Geyer. Also she released for one more time 7 incher "Heading In The Right Direction" on Polydor Records.

In 1987 Vaneese Thomas (Born in Memphis, Tennessee), the daughter of R&B legend Rufus Thomas, released her first album on Geffen Records entitled "Vaneese". Produced by Ernie Poccia, Vaneese Thomas and Wayne Warnecke. Sax solo by Joe Mennonna. Backing vocals by Carla Thomas, Berneta Miles, Betsy Bircher, Carolyn Mitchell, Lydia Mann, Sharon Bryant, Tawatha Agee and Francis Jackson. Vaneese recorded one more version of “Heading in the right direction”.
Today I have the pleasure to present you one more rare version of "Heading In The Right Direction". It was included on the rare album which was released in 1984.
